New Counterfeit Features of Pakistani Rupee in 2025-2026 & How Retailers Avoid Fake Money Loss

June 4, 2026

Pakistan’s central bank has repeatedly issued risk alerts in 2025–2026 against upgraded counterfeit PKR banknotes circulating across wholesale markets, exchange shops, grocery stores, and construction material retailers. The high-denomination 5000 PKR note becomes the top target for counterfeiters, causing unexpected financial losses to thousands of small and medium-sized local merchants every month.

Compared with old-version fake rupees, the latest counterfeit banknotes have greatly improved printing quality, making manual identification much harder under ordinary indoor lighting. We summarize three obvious flaws to tell counterfeit 5000 PKR apart from genuine banknotes for offline business owners.

First, the optically variable security thread on fake notes cannot shift color when tilted from different angles, while the authentic PKR thread changes between green and blue obviously. Second, the watermark portrait on counterfeit money looks blurry and flat without a layered three-dimensional texture; the genuine watermark shows a clear facial outline under transmitted light. Third, the intaglio printed tactile marks at the note edge feel smooth on counterfeits, whereas real banknotes carry distinct raised bumps designed for visually impaired users.

Many Pakistani shop owners rely only on their naked eyes to check cash during busy peak hours. In dim evening lighting or rush shopping periods, it is extremely easy to accept sophisticated counterfeit rupees by mistake, with no way to claim compensation after receiving fake currency.

To cut fake-money risks effectively, local merchants can combine two anti-counterfeiting solutions for daily cash management.

For small convenience stores with low daily cash flow, follow the above three manual checking rules for every large banknote. For wholesale markets, forex bureaus and medium-to-large retail outlets with heavy daily cash turnover, equipping professional intelligent PKR bill detectors is the most cost-efficient long-term solution.

Our currency detectors use UV, magnetic, and infrared triple-inspection modules, specifically calibrated for new & old series of the Pakistani Rupee. The machine can automatically screen out high-level counterfeit banknotes within one second, avoiding human negligence and financial loss caused by upgraded fake money.
